Tribute to Trees
You stand majestic and tall
Constant and steady
Witnessing to strength and deep rootedness
Unmoved by storms and rain.
You imbibe all that is good
From wind and rain
The breath of life
The water of life
You breathe in what I breathe out
I breathe in what you breathe out.
You give colour to my life
In the summer - forty shades of green
Copper beech and silver grey pines
And in Autumn - numerous shades of yellow
Orange, red,and brown carpeting my path.
In silence you give life and protection
Cut down for shelter, firewood or the craftsman
Without complaint
You constantly serve us.
When we cut you down for our use
May we remember your desire for continuity
And plant the seeds of the next generation of your species
Thank you for being.
